»Leading Creatives: Women in Music Leadership«

From May 2025, HMTM will launch a new mentoring programme to support female students and alumnae of the university on their path to leading positions in the music industry.

The programme offers current and former HMTM students the opportunity to network with experienced experts, further develop their professional visions and thus actively shape the music industry until two years after graduation.

Info sessions:

  • For lecturers on 14 March from 3 to 4 PM online via Zoom (registration by email; Zoom link will be sent out before the info session)
  • For students on 21 March from 10 to 12 AM in the Wavelab (Campus Arcisstraße, building D)

Informationen zum Mentoring-Programm im Überblick

  • Who is the programme intended for?

The HMTM mentoring programme focuses on female students who, due to gender, origin, language differences or personal circumstances, find it more difficult at first glance to achieve leading positions in artistic, educational or scientific cultural fields, to realise their professional goals and to become visible with their artistic identity.

  • What are the benefits of participating?

In the programme, the students and alumnae form tandems with a mentor and receive valuable insights into the actual professional reality from experts from the music and cultural sector for two semesters. This allows them to work out the next steps towards achieving their individual career goals.

In addition to the meetings of the tandems, workshops and individual consultations are held with the programme coordinators, Julia-Sophie Kober and Anita Pongratz from the HMTM Career Center.

The following points are central aspects of the mentoring programme:

    Empowerment: strengthening self-esteem and self-confidence

Entrepreneurial thinking: promoting personal initiative and vision

Shaping the future: developing realistic and concrete professional goals

Network building: support in building a professional network

Counselling: access to experts from professional practice with valuable, practical insights

  • How does the programme provide support?

The mentoring programme provides support for the duration of two semesters with the following modules:

    • Mentoring tandems: 1:1 mentoring by managers and musicians from the industry over a period of 2 semesters
    • Networking: exchange and collaboration between mentees
    • Personal development: strengthening individual competences
    • International perspectives: Supporting international students in their professional orientation in the German-speaking cultural sphere
    • Concrete results: Development of a business plan, guidance through application processes, reorientation (e.g. towards cultural management) or the acquisition of additional qualifications
  • Who can apply?

Female HMTM students (from the 2nd year of Bachelor’s studies, no visiting students, no Erasmus students, no young students) and HMTM alumnae (up to max. 2 years after graduation) can apply for the mentoring programme.
