Recording Studio

In the Recording Studio, a central facility of our university, a team of professional and experienced sound engineers work, who are happy to support our students (and also teachers) in their projects. Every academic year, the Recording Studio team creates numerous concert recordings and livestreams and supports students with productions and master CDs, for example. You can find an overview of the various offers at the bottom of this page.

Please note that no recordings or concerts involving the Recording Studio take place during the semester break. Equipment rental takes place during the semester break only on Wednesdays between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM (Arcisstraße 12, A128).

If you would like to make an appointment with the recording studio, please contact tonstudio@hmtm.de. The dates we set in advance for a semester are usually booked up quickly. Nevertheless, there are occasional returns or cancellations due to illness or similar, so that dates may become available at short notice. Concert and event recordings are decided by the university management and cannot be made at short notice, see below on concert recordings and live streams.

Sound amplification, sound systems, electronic musical instruments, projectors, etc. are managed by the event management team. Please contact them in good time to coordinate your requirements.

The services of our Recording Studio

  • Recording systems

In most large concert halls it is possible to make an audio or video recording on your own responsibility with little effort using the built-in recording system. To do this, you will need a valid LRZ account and your personal password, which you can use to log in to the recording system display. For more information, please contact the recording studio team.

The recording systems are currently installed in these halls:

    • Großer Konzertsaal Hall (Arcisstraße 12)
    • Kleiner Konzertsaal (Arcisstraße 12)
    • Reaktorhalle (Luisenstraße 37a)
    • Carl Orff Auditorium (Luisenstraße 37a)

For use, the hall must be booked through the Artistic Operations Office: raumanfrage@hmtm.de

    Please also note:

    • The recording facilities are closed for some events.
    • Recordings of exams are not permitted. The few exceptions can be found here (link to exams BA/MA etc.)
    • Copyright, ancillary copyright, licensing rights etc. must also always be observed. The clarification of these rights is your own responsibility. The university accepts no liability for misuse or violations of applicable law. Should the recording equipment be misused, the recording studio reserves the right to block this user.
  • Practical microphone exercises (productions)

The Recording Studio has a fixed contingent of recording times each semester in the Große Konzertsaal (Arcisstraße 12). As part of the »microphone practical exercises«, active students from all years and departments can record together with a sound engineer in a demanding and professional manner.

The following things should be noted:

    • A recording appointment can be booked in the Recording Studio as of four weeks before the start of the semester.
    • Students are allowed one recording date per person per semester as long as there are dates available.
    • For appointments, please contact tonstudio@hmtm.de or 089-289-27472 or -27467.
    • Please bring copies of the sheet music for the sound engineer.
    • The Recording Studio is not responsible for the ordering, tuning and transport of instruments.
    • Video recordings (usually one camera without editing!) can also be made. Please contact the Recording Studio in advance if you are interested.
    • If you are unable to attend and have to cancel the appointment, please let the Recording Studio know in good time!
    • We will gladly sign a confirmation for competitions or applications.
  • Master-CD

As part of the Master’s module »CD Production«, the Recording Studio will provide you with a recording appointment with a sound engineer in Arcisstraße 12 or in Gasteig HP8, as far as capacities allow. If you have registered for this examination performance, you can contact the Recording Studio and make an appointment.

  • Rental of audio and video equipment

By prior arrangement, you can borrow various devices such as video cameras, audio recorders, microphones, tripods, etc. in room A 128 for a period of approx. 1-2 weeks. Please enquire about the terms and conditions of loan or refer to the loan slip.

Please notify us in good time if you are dependent on the equipment.

For rental purposes, the Recording Studio opens during the semester in Arcisstraße 12 in room A 128 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Please keep to these times.

During the semester break, equipment is only rented out on Wednesdays between 10:00 and 11:00 AM (also at Arcisstraße 12, A 128).

  • Concert recordings and livestreams

Selected concert events are extensively recorded or streamed by our team and then published in the library’s digital collection and often also on the university’s Youtube channel.

Requests for concert recordings and livestreams are accepted until the end of a semester for the following semester by email: mitschnittplanung@hmtm.de

All recordings are decided by the university administration for the following semester. Later requests will only be approved in exceptional cases and always in consultation with the recording studio, the Communications Department and the library.

  • Advice on video conferencing, video teaching etc.

We are also happy to support you with all kinds of questions about video conferencing or video teaching via Jitsi, ZOOM, MS Teams and other tools.

  • Regular information events

The Recording Studio regularly informs about the different service offers. You are welcome to attend one of our information events. Students receive the invitation via their university email address.
