Gender & Diversity Award 2025 was awarded

10. July ’25

For the second time, HMTM has presented the Gender & Diversity Award to three students. The 2025 award winners are Svea Harder, Michael Dietrich and Veronika Sazanova.

Svea Harder (Master’s degree Musical in cooperation with the Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding) was honoured for her one-woman performance »F(L)EMME FATALE – Die Frau in den Flammen unserer Gesellschaft«. She describes the content of the performance as follows: »A woman on a very personal search for her own self in a society that threatens to burn. Working through issues in order to resolve them. Being a woman today. Being human in tomorrow.«

Michael Dietrich (studied Teacher Training in Music Education (Schools) at the HMTM, Vocal Studies at the Mozarteum Salzburg) receives the award for his concert »Out of sight …« about queer identities, their (in)visibility and the ambivalence associated with them. Personal comments on queer perspectives on life and a specially composed song combine past and present to create a musical plea for queer presence.

Veronika Sazanova (Bachelor’s degree in Historical Performance, main instrument harpsichord with Prof. Christine Schornsheim) puts forgotten pieces by female Baroque composers in the spotlight in her project »Hidden Sounds – Baroque Women Masters in the Glow of History«. The aim of the project is to make the depth, beauty and timeless relevance of these long overlooked soundscapes accessible to a wide audience – and at the same time to raise questions about visibility, remembrance and cultural memory.

The Gender & Diversity Award, worth 500 euros, has been presented to up to three projects each year since 2024. An internal HMTM jury (consisting of lecturers from various degree courses, a member of the equal opportunities team and two students) selects from the submissions, which include student research projects and final theses as well as individual projects in the artistic, educational and scientific fields. With the award, HMTM is strengthening its students’ artistic and academic engagement with the topics of gender, diversity and inclusion in the context of the arts. The competition aims to encourage students to deal explicitly with these topics in their artistic and academic work and productions in order to promote the continuous development of gender and diversity-related research.
