The Dean of Studies is responsible for the evaluation of teaching, including student evaluations. At our university, Dean of Studies Prof. Mi-kyung Lee and Dean of Studies Prof. Dr. Andrea Sangiorgio form the Dean of Studies Office. They are responsible for the organisation of the quality management processes in the area of teaching evaluation and for the preparation, implementation and evaluation of these processes. The Dean of Studies works closely with the Quality Management Advisor. The seminars and one-to-one lessons are evaluated. If the evaluation reveals quality problems in individual courses or classes, an evaluation discussion is held with the respective teacher.
The Dean of Studies advises students in particular on problems in the course of study and with regard to perceived deficiencies in the quality of teaching. It advises and supports the students. In this situation, it is also one of the tasks of the Dean of Studies to hold any necessary discussions with the relevant teaching colleagues and to clarify the respective problems.
The Dean of Studies maintains contact with the Faculty Student Councils in order to be informed about problems in the course of studies perceived by students and to be able to react to them. It is available for lecturers who wish to discuss issues regarding the implementation of their courses. If necessary, the Dean of Studies speaks with the respective head of the institute or department to ensure that the courses offered comply with the examination and study regulations and that the students are adequately supervised.
The Dean of Studies comments on the pedagogical qualifications of the applicants in the context of appointment procedures. It is also involved in the awarding of scholarships and the distribution of general study grants. In addition, it plays a central role in the planning and implementation of further training for teachers. Here, the Dean of Studies has a special opportunity to draw conclusions from the feedback of students and teachers as well as from the evaluation results and to make recommendations so that the „know-how” at the university grows with the social changes and challenges and the quality and diversity of teaching continue to develop.
In cooperation with the Staff Office Quality Management/Evaluation, the Dean of Studies submits an annual report on teaching (teaching report) in a non-personalised form.
