According to the Berlin Declaration of 2023, a prerequisite for open-access publications is publication »in a suitable electronic standard format in at least one online archive« [known as a repository], »which […] enables open access, unrestricted dissemination, interoperability and long-term preservation.«
The Munich University of Music and Theatre Munich fulfils these requirements through the establishment of the Digital Collection:
To the Digital Collection of the HMTM
Since 2008, the HMTM Library has been using a repository entitled »Digital Collection« for the publication and long-term archiving of digitised versions of the university’s own analogue holdings, as well as digital publications by the HMTM, its teaching staff and students. In the Digital Collection, the library publishes full-text research and teaching outcomes generated at the university. Concert recordings as well as audio and video recordings produced at the HMTM are also part of the Digital Collection. Immediate and free access to both academic and artistic content stimulates professional discourse and promotes academic exchange at both national and international levels.
The Digital Collection is managed by the HMTM Library in collaboration with the »Virtual Library of Bavaria« department of the Bavarian Library Network (BVB) and the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ), in accordance with international standards for data management and storage.
The Digital Collection meets the international criteria of the FAIR principles model, which sets out guidelines for the preparation of academic data and thus facilitates its use through findability, accessibility, interoperability and reusability.
Please note: Further information on discoverability and the literature relating to the digital collection can be found on the German page.
