In a world that is constantly changing and challenging, it takes more than just positive thinking and determination to be successful. In addition to ingenuity, courage, and self-knowledge, there is more needed to successfully master your personal and professional career. Can humans learn from nature as a role model about how to perform, compete and enjoy life with a healthy dose of drive? Reflections on these and other topics are the focus of the 9th international symposium «Art in Motion», which will take place on 16 and 17 May 2025. The conference at our university, initiated and conceptualized by Prof. Dr. Adina Mornell, combines perspectives from music, sports, medicine, neuroscience and life sciences with a total of 13 lectures, 10 workshops, a poster session and multiple live performances. The conference will be held in English. Registration is now open.
With an array of international guests, «Art in Motion 2025» will explore the question of whether learning and performance strategies that are designed to promote growth can also enable individuals to thrive whether by themselves, in groups such as orchestras and teams, and/or in society. Lectures by Margaret Osborne (AUS), Reinhard Kopiez (G) and Sinan von Stietencron (G) as well as workshops with Asaf Bachrach (F), Costas I. Karageorghis (UK), Holger Geschwindner (G), known as the coach of basketball star Dirk Nowitzki, and Christian Felix Benning (UK/G) and many more will focus on innovative approaches to growth, resilience, and wellbeing. A keynote speech by Katharina Schulze (G), leader of the Green Party in the Bavarian state parliament, is another highlight of this interdisciplinary conference.
«Art in Motion 2025» provides a forum for researchers and practitioners to take a critical look at the pursuit of success. It aims to provide accurate and objective information on a subject that is often seen as elusive and intuitive.
The symposium will take place on 16 and 17 May 2025 in Bavaria, at the University of Music and Theatre Munich and in Nantesbuch/ Bad Heilbrunn, at the Stiftung Kunst und Natur (Foundation Art and Nature). Across different event formats, participants can actively engage, exchange ideas, and look for their own, individual answers to questions raised. These two days will be thought-provoking and offer a cross-disciplinary and cross-border exploration of «The Drive to Thrive». To facilitate mutual understanding and communication, a bilingual program book – in English and German – will be available for participants.
The symposium is being funded by a grant from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation).
«Art in Motion», launched in 2008, has taken place almost every two years since then, with one exception due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. The symposium aims to promote an interchange between scientists and practitioners, highlights common ground between the disciplines, and offers an opportunity for everyone to learn from and with each other.
