Ulrich Kaiser is a specialist in open educational resources (OER) and digital learning, holds a doctorate in musicology, and is a professor of music theory at the University of Music and Theatre Munich. He is the author of publications by various publishers (Bärenreiter, Schott, Breitkopf), OpenBooks (oer-musik.de), and free teaching and learning materials (musikanalyse.net).
In 2018, Ulrich Kaiser initiated the open learning platform for music elmu.online; from 2021 to 2025, funding from the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education enabled him to scale this project and expand it into the Open Music Academy (openmusic.academy). In 2024, Ulrich Kaiser was nominated by OE Global for the »Open Education Award for Excellence« in the »Educator Award« category as part of a global competition. In the same year, the Open Music Academy received the »Open Education Award for Excellence« in the »Open Infrastructure« category. Ulrich Kaiser was awarded the 2024 Prize for Good Teaching by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts.
