Kristin von der Goltz is the daughter of violinist Conrad von der Goltz and pianist Kirsti Hjort.
She studied with Christoph Henkel in Freiburg. During her subsequent private studies with William Pleeth in London, Kristin von der Goltz played in orchestras including the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hanover Band.
From 1991 to 2004 she was a member of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. Today she performs on both modern and baroque cello and is internationally active as a solo cellist. Since 1992 she has been the cellist of the Trio Vivente with Anne Katharina Schreiber, violin, and Jutta Ernst, piano.
From 2000 to 2004, Kristin von der Goltz taught baroque cello at the Folkwang Musikhochschule in Duisburg. From 2002 to 2009 she taught baroque cello at the University of Music and Theatre Munich. From 2004 to 2009 she taught modern cello in an early childhood development class at the College of Catholic Church Music and Musical Education in Regensburg. She has been a member of the Berlin Baroque Soloists, an ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, since 2006. From 2009 to 2011 she was principal cellist in the Munich Chamber Orchestra.
Since 2009 she has held a professorship for baroque cello at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, and since 2011 she has also held a professorship for baroque cello at the University of Music and Theatre Munich.
From 2015/16 to 2018, Kristin von der Goltz was Artistic Director of the Norsk Barokkorkester in Oslo.
