Welcome to the University of Music and Theatre Munich! The first step has been taken – you have received your letter of admission. Congratulations!
Before you can start your studies, you must enrol at our university. In order to enrol, you have to come to Munich on certain dates. We have compiled all the necessary information for you here.
Exceptions apply to new students at our Ballet Academy and in the cooperative degree courses with the Theaterakademie August Everding. Please refer to the respective website for more information:
Enrolment takes place in person at the Universtiy of Music and Theatre at the end of September / beginning of October. For the enrolment period and address, please refer to the respective information sheets under »What documents do I need to bring with me?«.
Please also note that students of the Teacher Training courses must additionally enrol at the LMU for »Erziehungswissenschaften« (Education Studies).
For successful enrolment, you will need to bring some documents with you. This may vary depending on the degree course. Please read the PDF that applies to you and print out the necessary applications. You must complete and sign these and bring them with you to enrolment.

All students must prove to the university that they have sufficient health insurance cover when they enrol.
The proof must be submitted to us as a digital report from a German statutory health insurance company (electronic reporting procedure). Unfortunately, the presentation of an insurance card or a certificate from a private health insurance company is not sufficient for enrolment.
The procedure for digital registration works like this:
You are…
a) legally insured in Germany?
Please request a digital report on your insurance status from your health insurance company by 16 September 2024 at the latest (electronic reporting procedure). Please explicitly state that you wish to enrol at the University for Music and Theatre Munich.
b) privately insured in Germany?
Please contact a statutory health insurance company of your choice with a confirmation from your private health insurance company and ask them to digitally notify you of your exemption from compulsory German student insurance by 16 September 2024 at the latest (electronic notification procedure). When doing so, please explicitly state that you wish to enrol at the University for Music and Theatre Munich.
c) insured in a country of the European Union?
Please contact a statutory health insurance company of your choice in Germany with a confirmation from your health insurance fund and ask them to digitally report your exemption from compulsory German student insurance (electronic reporting procedure) by 16 September 2024 at the latest. When doing so, please explicitly state that you wish to enrol at the University for Music and Theatre Munich.
d) insured outside Europe?
Please contact a German statutory health insurance company to take out health insurance or to be exempted from compulsory student insurance if you have private health insurance that is valid for studying in Germany.
In both cases, a German statutory health insurance company must notify the University for Music and Theatre Munich of your insured status electronically. Without an electronic notification from a German statutory health insurance company even before your enrolment, enrolment is not possible.
When you enrol, you will receive certificates of enrolment, which you may need for various authorities. If you need further certificates of enrolment, please request them from us by e-mail or telephone or collect them in person from the Registrar’s Office.
We welcome our new students to our university with the opening ceremony.
The ceremony will take place on
Monday, 16 October 2022, 11:00 AM.
Großer Konzertsaal, Arcisstraße 12, 80333 Munich, Germany
If you have any further questions about enrolment, our team at the Registrar‘s Office will be happy to advise you.
This also applies to questions about re-registration, for example after an interruption in your studies, or about starting your studies at a later date.
