Internationalisation

Jazz education thrives on international networking. With this in mind, the Jazz Institute has been systematically expanding its international partnerships since 2013 in order to provide students access to a broad international network while they are still studying. Various guest performances and projects take them to different countries time and again.

Partnerships and intensive cooperation exist with the Berklee College of Music in Boston (USA), the State Conservatory of Mongolia in Ulan Bator (Mongolia) and the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance (Israel). Since 2023, close ties have also been established with Brazil, for example with the São Paulo State Music School – EMESP Tom Jobim and/or »Souza Lima – Conservatório e Faculdade de Música« in São Paulo. The HMTM Jazz Institute is also a member of the board of the International Association of Schools in Jazz.

In order to further promote the internationalisation of the institute, Camilo Dornier’s support has enabled the creation of a part-time position for internationalisation at the Jazz Institute, which is held by double bassist Martin Zenker. As a result of his work, the Jazz Institute is part of an EUNIC project in which the jazz institutes of Klagenfurt, Copenhagen, Munich and Paris travelled to Mongolia for a joint big band project.
