Biography

Marc Geifes was trained as a dancer at the Ballet Academy of the University of Music and Theatre Munich from 1988 to 1992. After graduation, he danced for six years under Konstanze Vernon and then for six years under Ivan Liska at the Bavarian State Ballet in Munich. During this time, he performed solo and character roles in both classical and modern repertoire in ballets by Frederick Ashton, Ray Barra, John Cranko, Mats Ek, William Forsythe, Jacopo Godani, Jiri Kylian, John Neumeier, Saburo Teshigawara and Hans van Manen, among others.

After finishing his professional dance career, Marc Geifes studied physiotherapy (Bachelor of Health) in Amsterdam and graduated cum laude in 2007. From 2007 to 2010, he worked as a physiotherapist in Arnhem, where he provided physiotherapy services to the Introdans dance company and students at the ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem, among others. From 2010 to 2020, he cared for the dancers of the Bavarian State Ballet and members of the Bavarian State Orchestra.

Since 2020, Marc Geifes has been teaching dance medicine at the Ballet Academy. It is his concern to give the aspiring dancers an understanding of their bodies in dance. This opens up the possibility of personal responsibility and prevention on the one hand, and access to one’s own potential on the other. In regularadvanced training courses, he teaches the teachers the physiological and anatomical basics specific to dance. Here he acts as a link and mediator between students and lecturers.
