University partnership with the Mongolian State Conservatory extended until 2028

The Monoglian State Conservatory in Ulan Bator (MSC) and the University of Music and Theatre Munich (HMTM) can continue their existing university partnership until the end of 2028 thanks to a further extension of funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). This means that almost €200,000 will be available for a further four years for the established exchange of students and teachers, for language courses and a student tutorial. The DAAD supports the university partnership with funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) via the “International Study and Training Partnerships (ISAP)” program.

Prof. Markus Bellheim, Vice President for International Affairs at HMTM: “The renewed funding of our partnership with the Mongolian State Conservatory is a great success. It gives us the financial security we need to continue our excellent cooperation. The regular exchange between Ulan Bator and Munich is a great benefit for students and teachers on both sides.”

Since the 2020 academic year, there has been close cooperation between the two universities, particularly in the fields of jazz and folk music. As part of the partnership, students from Mongolia have regularly spent a year studying in Munich in recent years. In turn, HMTM students have regularly spent a summer semester in Ulan Bator. In addition to the student exchange, which also includes language courses and accompanying tutorials, short-term lectureships are regularly offered by teachers. The project is coordinated by musician and lecturer Martin Zenker, who has been involved in the development of the collaboration since the very beginning.

For HMTM, the partnership with MSC is part of its internationalization strategy: with a broad, stable network of collaborations and partnerships, HMTM is creating a campus that is open to diverse cultural worlds and values, which sees diversity and tolerance as an opportunity. Internationalization is part of HMTM’s identity and reflects its high international profile. As part of its internationalization strategy, HMTM is expanding its network of university partnerships worldwide, based on excellence and diversity.
