Biography

Stefan Komarek studied with Prof. Ulf Rodenhäuser at the State University of Music and the Performing Arts Stuttgart and Prof. Alois Brandhofer at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. After completing his studies, he spent four years as principal clarinettist at the Stadttheater Baden near Vienna.

Since 1999, Stefan Komarek has held a teaching position for clarinet at the Institute for Teacher Training in Music Education (Schools) at the University of Music and Theatre Munich and also teaches at the Starnberg Music School.

Stefan Komarek has a profound knowledge of clarinet literature, from solo to ensemble, and successfully accompanies participants in competitions such as ‘Jugend musiziert’ up to the national level. He has an excellent network within the music scene throughout Upper Bavaria.
In addition to the clarinet, Stefan Komarek also has extensive experience in the field of saxophone, particularly with regard to literature and stylistics. He has been leading a big band for over 20 years and is involved in various crossover projects ranging from klezmer to swing to avant-garde.
