Folk Music

The Bachelor’s degree course in Folk Music, which combines artistic and pedagogical training, focuses primarily on Alpine folk music traditions at our university, with an emphasis on the region-specific characteristics of Bavaria, whilst also incorporating an exploration of other musical traditions, including those from outside Europe. Students’ training comprises ensemble playing, dancing and singing, both in terms of their own performance and in teaching. The course can be studied with various instruments as the principal subject.

Upon graduation, students receive a teaching qualification for folk music as well as for their main instrument. The breadth and diversity of professional training within the Bachelor’s degree course opens up equally varied career opportunities for alumni in the arts and culture, instrumental pedagogy, folk music education or in the field of academic and archival research.
