Biography

Philipp Weiß completed his training at the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar, where he studied teacher training in music education with a focus on elementary music education. He then went on to study at the Nuremberg University of Music, graduating with a master’s degree in jazz piano. In 2016, he won first prize at the YAMAHA Jazz Piano Competition.
A central focus of his artistic and educational work is collaborative music-making. In 2025, as part of the BR’s #BayernSingt initiative, he led 4,000 people in a sing-along at the Saturn Arena in Ingolstadt. In 2024, he initiated the founding of the »Bayerischer LandesjugendPOPchor« (Bavarian State Youth Pop Choir) under the auspices of the Bavarian Music Council and is a member of its management team. Since 2023, he has also been the musical director of the »don camillo« choir.

As a pianist, he has played with numerous inspiring musicians in various bands, including Harald Rüschenbaum, Max Grosch, Maruan Sakas and Peter Cudek. At the Bavarian State Theatre, he developed the music for Sebastian Baumgarten’s production of »Danton’s Death« in 2020 together with Christoph Clöser.
In addition to his professorship in practical and professional piano playing at the University of Music and Theatre Munich, Philipp Weiß has been teaching practical piano playing at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt since 2025.

In his teaching, Philipp Weiß combines artistic practice with the professional requirements of school and music education fields. The artistic and precise use of the piano plays a central role in stimulating musical learning and enabling aesthetic experiences. The individual performance level of the students is taken into account in such a way that the use of their piano playing in their future professional field is optimally prepared.
