Jappe Dendievel awarded DAAD prize 2025

The Belgian bassoonist Jappe Dendievel has been awarded the 2025 DAAD prize for outstanding achievements by international students at German universities. The prize will be presented by the university’s president, Lydia Grün, during the HMTM’s matriculation ceremony on 13 October 2025.

Jappe Dendievelis studying for a Master’s degree in bassoon in Prof. Dag Jensen’s class. He previously successfully completed his Bachelor’s degree at the HMTM.

Jappe Dendievel has already performed with renowned orchestras such as the Bergen Philharmonic, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and the Münchner Symphonikern. He also performs regularly in chamber music ensembles. From the 2025/26 season onwards, Jappe Dendievel will be a bassoon scholarship holder at Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz.

In 2022, Jappe Dendievel founded the Mahler Student Festival Orchestra (MSFO) together with conductor Lars Corijn. The orchestra is made up of music students from conservatoires across Europe. For their first project, 160 musicians from more than 20 countries performed Gustav Mahler’s Second Symphony. The orchestra has since become a fixture in intercultural musical exchange.

For more than 10 years, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has been awarding the DAAD prize annually to international students in recognition of outstanding academic achievement and exceptional social commitment. The prize is valued at 1.000 euros, and each university selects its own winner.
