Biography

Marcus Bosch is one of the most prominent and innovative minds in the German conducting scene and a sought-after guest conductor globally. In 2021, he was appointed Chief Conductor of the North German Philharmonic in Rostock. In addition, he has been Artistic Director of the Opera Festival in his hometown of Heidenheim since 2010, which he has developed into one of Europe’s most successful classical festivals. A key factor in this success was the founding and development of the festival’s own orchestra, Cappella Aquileia, which has drawn international attention with acclaimed concerts and recordings.

Marcus Bosch‘s operatic repertoire includes more than 100 musical theater works, including major projects such as Wagner’s Ring tetralogy and Berlioz’s Les Troyens. He maintains a stylistically broad concert and opera repertoire from the baroque to the contemporary. He has been responsible for numerous premieres and worked with influential stage directors such as Peter Konwitschny, Calixto Bieito and Stéphane Braunschweig as well as internationally known singers and instrumental soloists.

Marcus Bosch frequently develops new concert and event formats and conducted the world’s first freely accessible live internet broadcast (»Salome« in Aachen) in 2008, the first opera premiere broadcast live in cinemas (»Tristan and Isolde« in Nuremberg) in 2012. With the Nuremberg Klassik Open Air, he repeatedly led the largest classical music event in Europe.
Marcus Bosch has also served as Chairman of the German GMD and Chief Conductors’ Conference since its founding. As a professor, he is head of a successful conducting class and leads the Hochschulsymphonieorchester (University Symphony Orchestra) at the University of Music and Theatre Munich.
