Yumiko Urabe was born in Fukuoka, Japan. She studied at Gei-Dai University in Tokyo and completed her studies with a master class diploma under Prof. Klaus Schilde at the University of Music and Theatre Munich. Since 1988, she has been teaching as a permanent répétiteur at the University of Music and Theatre Munich, in the subjects of violin, cello and flute, primarily in collaboration with Ana Chumachenco, Walter Nothas and András Adorján. In 2006, she was appointed honorary professor.
Yumiko Urabe is a prize winner of the José Iturbi Competition in Valencia and the GPA International Piano Competition in Dublin. Her concert activities have taken her to numerous European countries as well as to Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Canada and the USA. Her CD productions have been released by NAXOS, Traversières, Phil.harmonie, Fontec and AVIE.
Since 2011, Yumiko Urabe has been the permanent pianist at the Kronberg Academy. In 2013, she was awarded the »Fukuoka Prefecture Culture Award« in Japan.
