Biography

Melanie Maennl is an internationally acclaimed soprano whose versatile career encompasses opera and concert performance. Her guest appearances and concerts have taken her to renowned opera houses and concert venues, including the Hamburg State Opera, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, and the philharmonic halls of Berlin, Munich and Cologne. Her signature roles include the title roles in Tristan und Isolde and Ariadne auf Naxos.

Alongside her performing career, Melanie Maennl is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of singers. Following teaching appointments at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, the University Mozarteum Salzburg, Conservatorium Maastricht and the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, she has been teaching a voice class within the principal artistic programme at the University of Music and Theatre Munich since 2004.

In addition, she works with professional singers at her private voice studio in the south of Munich.

A particular focus of her pedagogical work is the long-term development of young singers, guiding them from their earliest training through to an international career. Her students include numerous prize-winners at international vocal competitions, among them the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition. In 2025, her student Ann-Kathrin Niemczyk became the first German singer to be accepted into the prestigious Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
