Talent programme

The talent programme of the HMTM Young Academy supports musically highly talented children and young people from the age of 6 until they leave school. The talent programme includes fortnightly lessons in the main artistic subject (in addition to lessons with the previous teacher), a fortnightly Saturday programme (singing, music theory and ear training courses, youth lectures), courses and profile workshops (in the artistic and artistic-educational fields) as well as concerts and ensemble projects.

Admission to the Talent Programme is only possible in the winter semester. The passing of an aptitude test is required for admission.

The talent programme at a glance

- Lessons in the main artistic subject (fortnightly / in the semester periods) with university teachers in addition to lessons with the previous teacher
- Saturday programme (fortnightly / during semester periods) including singing, music theory and ear training courses as well as youth lectures
- Specific workshops and projects in the artistic and artistic-educational field
- Concerts and ensemble projects
To be accepted into the talent programme at our university, you must pass an aptitude test. The basic requirement is above-average ability on your instrument or in singing.

The application requires
a) a »professional assessment« by a specialist such as the current music teacher, the head of a music school, a university lecturer, etc.
or
b) proof of winning a 1st prize in the »Jugend musiziert« competition.

Application deadline for the academic year 2025/2026: 30 April 2025, 11:59 PM

There is a specific aptitude test for the talent programme: It will take place in June 2025 at the University of Music and Theatre Munich.

Programme of the aptitude test: Two pieces of your choice.

You must register online for the aptitude test by the deadline.
- musically highly gifted pupils from Upper Bavaria, Lower Bavaria and Swabia from the age of 6 until graduation
- musically highly gifted pupils from Upper Bavaria, Lower Bavaria and Swabia from the age of 16 until graduation with a special educational interest
If you are unsure whether the talent programme at our university is for you, you can come to our preliminary courses for those interested in the talent programme.

The preliminary courses U19 take place in these subjects:
- Piano (Prof. Martina Bauer)
- Violin (Prof. Sonja Korkeala)
- all instruments, composition, conducting and vocal training with more than three registrations.
Please bring a well-prepared work of your choice to this preliminary course for audition.

The preliminary courses always take place in February. Upcoming dates will be announced well in advance.
