Prof. Jan Broeckx, Artistic Director of the Ballet Academy at HMTM, has been awarded the »Time To Dance Award« for his life’s work, together with his twin brother Wim Broeckx. The award ceremony took place on 9 February 2026, in his hometown of Antwerp as part of the »Time To Dance – International Ballet Gala«.
He received the non-monetary award for a life dedicated to ballet – and still is. The two brothers were trained at the Royal Ballet School in Antwerp and have both built remarkable international careers that have had a lasting impact on the ballet world, according to the award citation.
Jan Broeckx danced with companies such as the Ballet of Flanders, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and the Bavarian State Ballet, and later became danseur étoile at the Ballet National de Marseille Roland Petit. Today, he trains the next generation of dancers at our ballet academy.
His brother Wim Broeckx performed internationally as a solo dancer with companies such as the London Festival Ballet and the Dutch National Ballet. Today, he passes on his expertise worldwide as a freelance teacher, coach, and artistic advisor based in Australia.
The »Time To Dance – International Ballet Gala« is a high-profile international ballet and dance gala, initiated and presented by Belgian ballet dancer Wim Vanlessen.
