Our university has appointed the experienced dancer and dance teacher Isabelle Severs as Professor of Ballet as of 15 March 2025. She has acquired extensive expertise through her many years of stage and teaching experience, including at the Ballet Academy of the University of Music and Theatre Munich (HMTM), and rounded this off with a master’s degree in dance pedagogy at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden. At the Ballet Academy of the HMTM, she will teach students of all ages.
Isabelle Severs places particular emphasis on contemporary teaching methods, joint reflection and an open and respectful relationship with her students, combined with high artistic standards:
»Dance education is currently undergoing a period of upheaval. In contrast to the past, the focus today is on the students and their individual personalities. That’s why, in addition to dance expertise, knowledge of dance medicine and psychology is essential. My teaching methods are based on the needs and abilities of the students. I have high expectations, but at the same time I create a motivating working environment. A trusting and positive working atmosphere is particularly important to me, as is an honest feedback culture, coupled with patience and empathy.«
After a 20-year career as a stage dancer with stations in Stuttgart, Berlin and Munich, Isabelle Severs has been teaching at the Ballet Academy University of Music and Theatre Munich since September 2015, where she instructs aspiring professional dancers between the ages of 8 and 20. In addition to classical dance, she also teaches additional subjects such as pointe work, repertoire and Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT®). In addition, she made an important contribution to the development of the pedagogical concept, which has been the basis of studies at the Ballet Academy of the HMTM since 2020. She was a member of the curatorial team for the 9th Biennale Tanzausbildung of the Ausbildungskonferenz Tanz, which took place in Munich in February 2024.
From 2018 to 2021, Isabelle Severs studied dance pedagogy at the Palucca University of Dance in Dresden (degree: Master of Arts with honours).
In addition to her work at the Ballet Academy, Isabelle Severs regularly teaches in various summer courses and is a regular expert at the Talent Scouting Days, organised by Danse Suisse in Zurich. Alongside her artistic work in the ballet studio, she also works on subject-related scientific research and the resulting further development of dance education.
