Our university has appointed Jürgen Ellensohn as Professor of Trumpet. He will take up his duties at the University of Music and Theatre Munich (HMTM) on 15 March 2025 and contribute his extensive experience in orchestral playing, as a soloist and chamber musician, and as a dedicated teacher and mental coach.
Jürgen Ellensohn describes his teaching approach as follows:
»For me, teaching is more than just imparting subject-specific content. It means accompanying young musicians throughout their entire development – both on their instruments and in their personal development. I love the detailed work on the instrument, improving playing skills and working on the music. But in the end, the mental aspect is crucial for success and well-being on stage. That’s why mental coaching is an integral part of my teaching.«
Jürgen Ellensohn has held a professorship at the University of Music Würzburg since 2019. He also taught as a professor at the Stella Vorarlberg Private University College of Music (2022–2023) and at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory (2015–2019).
For 15 years, Jürgen Ellensohn was principal trumpet with the hr-Sinfonieorchester (Frankfurt Radio Symphony). He previously held the same position with the Bern Symphony Orchestra (Berner Symphonie-Orchester) from 2003 to 2005. He is still a welcome guest in many major orchestras, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, the Münchner Philharmoniker, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra and the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich. He has also appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras, working with conductors such as Kirill Petrenko, Andrés Orozco-Estrada and Matthias Pintscher, among others.
Jürgen Ellensohn completed his studies with Prof. Lothar Hilbrand at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory and with Prof. Hans Gansch at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. From 2002 to 2003, he was also a scholarship holder of the Orchestra Academy of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunk. In 2015, Jürgen Ellensohn also completed a course of study as an academic mental coach at the University of Salzburg.
Jürgen Ellensohn also pursues his great passion for chamber music with great dedication. He is a member of the Austrian brass ensemble »Pro Brass« and »The Philharmonic Brass«. He was also a member of »hr-brass« for many years. His stylistic diversity as a soloist and chamber musician is reflected in numerous audio and video recordings.
