Our university has appointed Julian Prégardien as Professor of Oratorio. He has been associated with the HMTM since 2013 through teaching assignments and project work, and has held the post of Professor of Vocal Studies since 2017. Julian Prégardien will take up his new post at the HMTM on 1 June 2026. His previous professorship in Vocal Studies will be advertised for a new appointment.
Julian Prégardien on his new professorship:
»Teaching oratorio was my starting point at the HMTM when I took on my first teaching post. The fact that I can now focus my project work, one-to-one tuition and workshops more strongly on the field of oratorio is, for me, a wonderful culmination of all my work to date. I am very much looking forward to continuing to work with the students. It is important to me to address individual questions very consciously and, at the same time, to convey a comprehensive understanding of the approach to singing and performing music.«
Julian Prégardien will now increasingly contribute his extensive experience as a singer in demand worldwide to the HMTM’s curriculum. The German tenor is equally experienced in performing both so-called early music and contemporary music. His interpretations of the Evangelist in Johann Sebastian Bach’s Passions have set new international standards.
Julian Prégardien hails from the Frankfurt area and trained at the Limburg Cathedral Music School, the Freiburg University of Music and the Académie Européenne de Musique at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. His artistic work is primarily dedicated to the various fields of concert singing. Together with project developer Kian Jazdi, he has been building up the cultural start-up ‘Liedstadt’ since 2024. At the beginning of 2026, he was appointed Artistic Director of the Heidelberg Spring Lied Centre.
