Marcell Csuka awarded DAAD prize 2026

Accordionist and HMTM student Marcell Csuka has been awarded this year’s DAAD prize for outstanding achievements by international students at German universities. The prize will be presented during the HMTM enrolment ceremony, which will take place on 12 October 2026 in the »Großer Konzertsaal« on Arcisstraße.

Marcell Csuka has been studying at the HMTM since 2022 in Krassimir Sterev’s class, currently on the Master’s programmes in Accordion (degree course with a performance profile) and Contemporary Music. Prior to this, he studied on a full scholarship at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire in Saint Petersburg and, as part of the Erasmus+ programme, at the Conservatoire de Paris.

His artistic work focuses on contemporary music. As a soloist and chamber musician, he performs regularly with ensembles and orchestras in Germany and internationally.
Highlights of his artistic career to date include the Berlin Prize for Young Artists 2024 (in German) as well as numerous prizes at international accordion competitions.

Alongside his concert activities, he is particularly committed to making contemporary music accessible to people who rarely come into contact with it. During a residency in Porto, for example, he developed participatory projects with the local community, and in Saint Petersburg he took part in workshops and concerts aimed at promoting contemporary music.

For more than 10 years, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has been awarding the DAAD prize annually to international students in recognition of outstanding academic achievement and exceptional social commitment. The prize is valued at 1.000 euros, and each university selects its own winner.
