The University of Music and Theatre Munich (HMTM) has appointed Omer Klein as Professor of Jazz Piano. He will take up his duties at our university on 1 October 2025 and bring his extensive international experience and wide-ranging skills as a pianist and composer to the work of the Jazz Institute.
When working with students, Omer Klein focuses on the individual process:
«What is particularly important to me as a professor is the opportunity to help young musicians develop their musical identity. I‘m looking forward to working with students to find the right individual process for their artistic growth. Together with the students, I want to work on refined techniques and a musical sensibility that will enable them to express themselves in music in all its diversity.»
Omer Klein’s work covers a broad spectrum, from solo piano to big band, from song to symphony orchestra. He composes for his own jazz trio, for string quartet, as well as for theatre, dance and film.
In the 2024/2025 season, Omer Klein will be Artist in Residence at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, where he will present his new sextet »Omer Klein & The Poetics«, on 29 April. He has released ten albums, five of them on the renowned label Warner Music. He has won numerous awards, including the ECHO Jazz, and has been nominated three times in recent years for the German Jazz Award in various categories. In 2025, he was already nominated for the German Jazz Award with his Omer Klein Trio as »Live Act of the Year«.
