Anastasia Churbanova is a pianist, improviser and composer.
Since 2024, Anastasia Churbanova has been a full-time lecturer for practical piano playing and improvisation at the HMTM. She teaches students in degree courses with a teaching and performance profile as well as in the field of elemental music education and teaches free improvisation in classical styles.
As a child, Anastasia Churbanova received lessons in piano, conducting and composition, beginning her training in Saint Petersburg. She later studied in Mannheim and Frankfurt, completing her concert exam with Prof. Alexej Gorlatch. She has many years of teaching experience (including in cooperation with the National Theatre Mannheim) and performs internationally as a soloist (including with the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra Wernigerode and the Kurpfälzisches Chamber Orchestra), in a piano duo with her twin sister Polina Churbanova, and as a chamber musician.
Anastiasia Churbanova founded the »Anastasia Churbanova Project« in which she realises her own compositions with musicians from the Mannheim jazz scene. In 2019, she created the project »Movement and Sound – Space and Time« with dancer Maria Kobzeva, in which music and dance merge improvisationally. In both formats – as well as in her solo programmes – improvisation is a central element of her artistic expression.
Her awards include first prize at the international competition »Art of the XXI Century« in Kiev and an award for a piano sonata she composed at the »Performer-Composer« competition.
