Hanni Liang is a pianist and concert creator – the latter of which she currently teaches at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. She is deeply convinced that art and culture can foster a more humane way of living together. In her concert projects, she artistically explores contemporary social themes. Actively engaged in developing new concert formats, she consistently transcends the boundaries of the traditional classical concert, incorporating other art forms and questioning her role as a musician and artist of today in light of the current global challenges.
Her performances have taken her to venues such as the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, where she questioned »Who owns the water?« in a performance of Caroline Shaw’s piano concerto, or to the Pinakothek der Moderne, where she created a performance on broken instruments.” She has also performed at the Wigmore Hall, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Styriarte Festival in Graz, the Kurhaus Wiesbaden, the State Opera Hanover, Jeunesse Vienna, Das HAUS Brussels or at festivals like the Edinburgh International Festival or Kissinger Sommer. She also works with orchestras like The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen or the Munich Philharmonic.
Through her co-creative projects, in which she involves people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds in the artistic process – both on and behind the stage – she transforms the concert into a space of encounter and exchange. Her projects have been presented at festivals such as the Reeperbahn Festival, Heidelberger Frühling, Ludwigsburg Castle Festival and the Mozartfest Würzburg, where she curated a four-week »Festival within the Festival« on the theme of Urban Encounters.
