Biography

Realising and communicating masterpieces of music history and the contemporary repertoire in the highest possible quality – this guiding principle shapes Martin Steidler’s work as a choir director, conductor and professor of choral conducting. He led the HMTM Madrigal Choir to first prize at the German Choir Competition in 2014 and to victory at the »Let the Peoples Sing« competition in 2015.

Martin Steidler’s work is characterised by the highest standards of fidelity to the original. His profound engagement with historical performance practice began while studying piano and choral conducting at the universities of Vienna and Regensburg. Another focus of his repertoire is contemporary music – he has rehearsed and conducted a number of world premieres.

Martin Steidler’s ensembles have performed at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Carnegie Hall in New York. As a conductor, he works regularly with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the L’arpa festante orchestra and the Georgian Chamber Orchestra. He is also a sought-after lecturer and juror at international workshops and competitions.
Martin Steidler’s work is also characterised by international exchange projects and the development of new concert formats.

Choral music requires both tonal and human collaboration, which is why Martin Steidler focuses on professional voice training, precise speech and intonation work, and a clear understanding of the inner essence and emotions of the works – as well as on building an appreciative community.
