At the beginning of the academic year, we at the HMTM welcomed our new students with extensive »Welcome Days« for the first time! The semester started with various information events, a festive immatriculation ceremony and plenty of opportunities to meet and get to know each other, be it at a city rally or the semester opening party.
Our new students got started as early as Wednesday, 9 October – even before the official start of the semester. From Wednesday to Friday, the new students came together for the first part of the »Welcome Days« over three orientation days. Organised by Lilli Jordan from the International Office and the student representatives, the students were divided into interdisciplinary groups. At the university locations on campus Arcisstraße, Luisenstraße 37a and Gasteig HP8, they received a wealth of information – from library services to training on the campus management system and on how to book rooms – and at the same time had plenty of opportunities to exchange ideas and get to know each other. A city rally and a pub quiz at the weekend rounded off the programme.
On Monday, 14 October, the official opening of the academic year followed with the immatriculation ceremony in the Great Concert Hall at Arcisstraße 12. President Prof. Lydia Grün and the student council hosted a programme that was co-designed by students from the HMTM. It was a particular pleasure to present the DAAD Prize 2024 to double bass student Harry Atkinson (class of Prof. Alexandra Scott).
Afterwards, all university members were able to find out about the extensive services of the HMTM at various stands in the southern atrium and in the small concert hall at Arcisstraße 12, organised by the Career Center: the International Office, the start-up centre and innovation laboratory Wavelab, the AICA, the library, musicians for a better life, the equal opportunities team and the student representatives were also on hand, as were the student artist agency ForWART, the student advisory service, a BAföG and scholarship advisory service, the department of innovative teaching development, the communications department, the university management and, of course, the career centre itself. In the afternoon, many students were also welcomed by their institutes.
The »Welcome Days« were rounded off by the student council on Thursday, 17 October: the »FaKo Cinema«, where the recording of the last carnival concert will be shown, and the Semester Opening Party.
We wish all university a good start to the semester and thank everyone for the successful welcome!
